Spring Camping in NW California Bigfoot Country

Rain or shine, wind and green, once April’s moon shines full, I start to get camping restless.
For many people it’s still a little too chilly (and possibly wet). But I’ve discovered, braced with wool socks and hat, Spring camping is about adventure, excitement, and renewal. The least popular time to camp, there are fewer other campers, and in some places none at all, which adds to the wild appeal. There may be challenges – in rain (and snow), from sprinkles to downpours, which can be exhilarating and empowering. The night somehow just feels darker, giving the campfire a ritualistic and primal glow. It is the time of year when bears wake up (and walk by your tent) and the other critters you cross paths with are as shocked as you are. The woodlands will be a tangle of buds and blooms. Witnessing thriving nature and wild woodland activities remind us to take notice of the earth, the subtle (and not subtle) details, and the effect they have on our human-ness. So, check the weather, and the roads; then pack your wool cap and socks and let’s go camping!
Wild Escape Guides, Quiet, Dark, and Wild campgrounds in Bigfoot Country (the coast and lower elevations of NW California Klamath mountains), has several amazing campgrounds where spring-season camping splendor can be enjoyed. Here are a few of my favorites:
