“Would you camp there alone?”
This is the #1 question I have been asked since starting this project. It seems so many of us are craving alone time with nature.Since I have been venturing out SOLO stands to reason why I’ve reflected, pondered, even brooded about it. My journal is filled with this subject. In fact, I could devote a chapter to it in my book. For certain camping SOLO anywhere is completely up to you and your comfort level. Solo seclusion can be a wonderful disconnect from modern life full of rich solitude. It can also feel vulnerable, exposed and isolated. The question I ask is which “Feels” right for a particular place. Here are some of my thoughts on the subject (please share yours):
1. Go into the camp outing with a Healthy Attitude about yourself. The mantra I am Confident, I am Capable, I am Safe really does work. You will feel such and your presence will reflect such.(You can still practice Wabi-Sabi, just don’t worry what others think!)
2. Repeat after me, You gotta take care of yourself. Plan on tending to your own sprained ankle or cut finger or flat tire. Go into the outing with the mind set that only you can get yourself out. Be Prepared.(cell phone-NOT likely!)
3. NO ONE HAS TO GO LOOK FOR YOU. There is NO Search and Rescue Law. Only person, your Check-in Buddy, whom you showered with Chocolate just for this reason…then and if the Sheriff.
4. Go with your Gut. (You) Know what to do, it will jump right into the fore front of your mind.
5. 99.9% of all the peeps I have crossed paths with camping are agreeable, out there doing what I’m doing!
