Tuesday night I went on a “Date with Nature” at Patrick’s Point State Park. Although I’ve camped here before a few times it still felt like a blind date. I wasn’t expecting too much. The State Parks are usually a bit too manicured and too busy with visitors to satisfy my craving for wild and solitude. My date on Tuesday, however, turned out to be really lovely! I won’t say I’m in love, but it fulfilled my lust for a date with nature.
There are more fuzzy edges around the roads and campground than mowed; visitors hardly use the less popular trails which are soft underfoot and nicely bordered with the lush understory. The night is quiet and dark enough to feel disengaged from modern life. The forest canopy is a boisterous choir of bird song. Well worth the $ for a quick date with nature!
